BEGINNING - INTERMEDIATE Oil and Acrylic Painting at Johns Creek Arts Center
Mondays 7-9:30pm
Students will learn to create a painting from concept to completion in oil or acrylic media. We will focus on proper planning prior to starting a painting, as well as, basic layering and blending techniques, color mixing, handling the brush and more. Students will work at their own pace in a relaxed and supportive setting. Each session will feature 3 instructor demonstrations of beginning-intermediate painting techniques. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your sketch pad and your ideas. Returning students, bring your current painting and materials.

Students will be encouraged to go the extra mile with preliminary drawings and color studies while working on their own paintings.  Work at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. This class will delve deeper into color theory, mixing, and application, as well as, composition and design strategies. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your sketch pad and your ideas. Bring your ideas to life from concept to completion in a relaxed and supportive setting. This class emphasizes proper planning prior to putting brush to canvas. Students will learn about the importance of composition and thumbnail sketches, strong photo references, quick color studies, and preliminary drawings to act as a framework for a painting. Students will find that a little extra effort in the planning stages will make for more successful paintings and a more enjoyable painting experience. In addition, we will focus on color mixing, brushwork, and various painting techniques. Students will work on anything they wish in their own style, and at their own pace, while enjoying one on one instruction and demonstrations.

Portraits in Oil
Fridays 10am-1pm
Learn how to paint portraits in oil working from photographs. Students will enjoy instructor demonstrations, learning how to shoot their own photos for portraits and one on one instruction as they paint their own portraits in oil. We will focus on how to light and shoot your subject for the purpose of painting a portrait, as well as color mixing, application, blending and layering.

Media Exploration
Fridays 10am-1pm
This course is for beginners looking to try something new without the commitment of purchasing an extensive list of supplies. Students will learn foundational techniques for drawing and painting, and can use this class as a springboard for further study and exploration. We will spend 3 weeks painting in acrylic, 3 weeks painting in watercolor, 2 weeks drawing in pencil, and 2 weeks drawing with charcoal. Students will come away with a basic understanding of drawing, shading, color mixing, brushwork, and composition. All materials are included in the course fee. Students need only bring themselves and their excitement to try something new! Includes all supplies!
